Agricultural packaging is specified against the material and the storage conditions, in that order. A sack that performs indoors on pallets can fail outdoors in a single season.
The challenge
Three questions that decide the order
Specific to Agriculture & Commodities. If these are not the questions on your desk, tell us which are.
01
UV degradation in outdoor storage
Untreated woven polypropylene loses tensile strength under prolonged sun exposure. In this climate that is a matter of months, not years, and it is the most common cause of unexpected bag failure.
02
Moisture ingress and condensation
Grain and feed spoil from moisture that enters through the weave or condenses inside a sealed bag. The fix is a liner or a breathable specification, depending on the material.
03
Pallet stability at height
Sacks that will not stack square create a handling hazard and waste warehouse height. Gusset and fill profile determine whether a stack holds.
How we work
What we do about it
We specify a UV-stabilised grade where storage is outdoors, add a liner or a breathable construction based on the material and climate, and quote the gusset and fill profile against the intended pallet pattern.
When specifying
- State whether storage is indoor, covered or fully exposed.
- Specify a UV-stabilised grade for any outdoor storage.
- Confirm the pallet pattern and stack height before fixing the gusset.
